God empowers us so that we can soar
Like eagles above our Difficulties
I recently heard the
news about Ford Motor Company plans to reduce employment by
30,000 over the coming years. This was followed a little later
by an announcement from Daimler Chrysler that it plans to layoff
6,000 employees. The article I read about the layoffs also
talked about a previous General Motors announcement to lay off
over 25,000 employees during the next 3 years.
I certainly don’t mean to
pick on the auto industry. There have been similar layoffs
announced by companies in other market segments. For example,
Merck, the pharmaceutical giant, announced a layoff of over
7,000 employees in December. And this does not even include all
of the smaller company layoffs impacted by rising fuel prices.
But the announcement about
Ford just seemed to hit me differently. Maybe it was because of
the magnitude of the numbers. My immediate thought was about the
many people who will be without jobs; those who had families to
support, dreams that were ruined, lives turned upside down.
Taken at face value this was
very depressing news.
These thoughts occupied my
drive back and forth to work for several days. It was on one of
those days when I noticed a church sign that I passed every day
on my way back home from work. It read:
God
empowers us so that we can soar
Like
eagles above our Difficulties
Even though I saw this quote
several times before I didn’t pay a whole lot of attention to
it. Like many things in life though, sometimes it takes a
catalyst for something to happen. For me it took the layoffs to
really think about the message of this quote.
How can this quote help deal
with financial setbacks like a layoff, or a stack of bills on
our table that will help us on our success journey?
The key to this quote is a
message we must never forget; God
empowers us to overcome our difficulties.
Take just a few moments to
grasp the tremendous implications this statement has to our
lives. First it says we will have difficulties in our lives.
There is just no getting around it. Whether this means family
problems, health problems or losing a job, there will be
difficulties in our lives.
But what is so awesome is that
God gives us the power to rise above them, to deal with them and
overcome them. We are not dependent on luck or fate to overcome
them. Overcoming difficulties is not meant for just a favored
few.
God has given each
one of us the power to overcome our difficulties. He does
this by giving us the power of choice. Yes it is up to each one
of us to make the choice, or decision to overcome obstacles both
great and small in our lives.
I know the people who will be
getting layoff notices (maybe you?) were not involved with that
decision. But God has empowered each one of them with the ability to make the decision
about how they are going to respond. Will they surrender and go
meekly to the unemployment line to drift through life? Or will
they decide to fight and say “I have always wanted to build
financial security for my family and me. It may be difficult,
but I am committed to building a better life not dependant on
any company for my success!”
This is the message of the
quote I saw. God has empowered each of us with the ability to
direct our lives by the decisions we make. The
Biblical Guide To Internet Riches talks about how to make
sure your decisions are aligned with the words of the Bible for
financial success.
Use this short lesson to help
make your decision to commit to achieving financial success –
God has empowered you to do so. All you need to do is DECIDE!
Finally,
heed the advice of St
Paul in his letter to the Philippians 4:8 where he tells us:
“Finally, my brothers, your thoughts should be wholly directed to all
that is true, all that deserves respect, all that is honest,
pure admirable, decent, virtuous or worthy of praise.”
